Folk Literature
Several of our thematic units center on authentic legends. Students work with two Aztec myths in Mitos del mundo azteca. They meet several Aztec gods and learn about their world. They are able to indentify the qualities that make story a myth. Students use Les contes polynésiennes as a model for description in the past and they learn the creation stories set in French Polynesia
Culture
Other units like Au café help students function in a cultural situation. Students practice a variety of impromtu conversation to prepare them to order from French servers. Los Galapagos helps students describe animal from the exotic Galapagos habitats. They use Spanish to compare animals and their habitats.
Language-rich Context for Communication
Communication is the primary goal of our units. Authenic literature and cultural settings offer meaningful context for communication. Folktales provide a language-rich model for communication. When students diagram the plot, characters, and setting of stories, they preparing to write their own stories. They use authentic cultural settings to practice real-world communication.
